*: Commissioned to celebrate the 1985-86 return of Halley’s comet, this piece explores the historical interpretation and projection of the comet throughout the course of human understanding as perceived by the people of every epoch since its first recorded observance in 684 CE. Subotnick subtitles the piece “a triumph of reason” in good taste.
